Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil (Meleleuca alterniforia) has long been a well-known and widely used natural antifungal and antibacterial agent. As early as in primitive cultures, crushed tea tree leaves were used to disinfect wounds.

However, the oil used in the cosmetic industry, compared to its synthetic counterpart, benzoyl peroxide, shows much more lasting effects. As an ingredient in shampoos, it effectively inhibits the formation of fungal infections, including those that cause the formation of dandruff. As a substrate of facial cleansers and makeup removers, it reduces the occurrence of acne.

On the other hand, tea oil in the formulation of mouthwashes prevents inflammation of the gums. However, it is important to note that tea oil should not be taken orally, as it can have a toxic effect if ingested. It is also discouraged to use preparations with oil in children, pregnant women and those with allergies.

Tea oil is also commonly found on its own. Used as a concentrate for intensive, directional control of fungal and bacterial infections.
