Evening primrose oil

Evening primrose oil is obtained from the mechanical cold pressing of the seeds of the biennial evening primrose, a plant brought to Europe from North America in the early 17th century.

The oil is slightly yellowish in color and has a characteristic mild odor. It is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, including linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid, as well as polyphenols, which are responsible for proper skin hydration. For this reason, evening primrose preparations are used in formulations designed for dry and flaky skin. The aforementioned gammalinolenic acid is a precursor of prostaglandin 1, responsible for normal skin condition. As we age, its concentration naturally decreases and the skin becomes dry, rough, sagging.

Cosmetics containing evening primrose oil nourish the skin, moisturize and firm it. The complexion is rejuvenated. Due to its numerous regenerative properties and its effect on the sebaceous glands, evening primrose oil is also increasingly recommended by dermatologists for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema and some forms of eczema.
