St. John's wort has been known for centuries as a herb with versatile health uses. In folk medicine, it was a recognized remedy for treating gastrointestinal ailments and even short-term mood drops, known as situational depression.
St. John's wort is a plant common throughout Poland and most parts of the world. It is characterized by its characteristic yellow flowers, secreting a reddish sap, known as St. John's blood, when squeezed.
St. John's wort contains abundant amounts of flavonoids, organic substances that exhibit an extremely wide range of uses in medicine and cosmetics. Thanks to their content, St. John's wort effectively soothes irritation, contributes to skin regeneration and relieves pain. It also exhibits antiseptic properties.
St. John's wort is an indispensable remedy for sunburns and skin that is particularly sensitive to irritation and damage. In addition to its regenerative abilities, St. John's wort restores the skin's natural color, effectively reducing redness.
It is worth mentioning that flavonoids contained in St. John's wort also show antioxidant activity. This property preserves the skin from the effects of aging in the form of loss of firmness, sagging and escalation of wrinkles.
