This one of the most common plants, hitherto primarily found in food applications, has gained recognition as a versatile ingredient in skin care cosmetics.
Sorrel is a plant rich in significant tannin content. This substance, in turn, shows strong antibacterial properties, so sorrel can be successfully used in disinfecting irritations on the surface of the skin. Thus, it prevents the formation and development of infections. Another property of tannin is the regulation of sebum secretion, which is particularly important in combating acne.
Among the substances that are contained in sorrel are also flavonoids. Flavonoids are intense antioxidants whose presence helps balance the skin's antioxidant system. This property allows you to keep the skin in excellent condition, effectively delaying the progress of the aging process. The skin on which remedies with sorrel extract are applied looks fresh and healthy, and is characterized by smoothness and firmness.
Oxalis also blocks the secretion of tyrosinase, which prevents the formation of hyperpigmentation, and has a whitening effect.
