Biotin

Biotin is a representative of the B vitamins, often referred to as vitamin H or the beauty vitamin. Its proper concentration in the body determines the healthy appearance of the skin and its appendages, hair and nails. This is due to the sulfur molecules included in the vitamin, which regulates the activity of the sebaceous and sweat glands. Vitamin deficiencies are an increasingly common phenomenon in an era of widely chemically processed foods, alcohol abuse, and the use of oral hormonal contraception and hormone replacement therapy.

For this reason, biotin has been widely used in cosmetics. The active form of vitamin H can be found in shampoos and hair conditioners used by people fighting alopecia areata, dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. It is also an ingredient in the most effective preparations for brittle and splitting nails.

Due to similar chemical structure to the urea molecule, similar moisturizing properties are observed. This fact has made vitamin H an increasingly common ingredient in creams and lotions designed for dry and prematurely aging skin.
